About Aikido

Aikido is a highly refined martial art, developed last century as a means of self-defence and martial training. Aikido develops coordination of mind and body. Through it's philosophy and techniques, Aikido brings us into harmony with our environment, other people and ourselves.

Unlike many martial arts, Aikido requires no advantage in strength or speed, and is practiced successfully by people of all ages and abilities.

Aikido practice develops flexibility, co-ordination, concentration, improved health and fitness, effective communication skills and self-esteem.

The physical aspects of Aikido, are graceful and dynamic but are only the outward manifestation of what is, a real and direct way to improve our quality of life.

Lineage (Style)

We maintain a direct connection with the founders of Aikido. Master Koretoshi Maruyama the head of our style is an original student of the founder of Aikido Master Morihei Ueshiba. Michael Williams sensei is his personal student and world chief instructor of Aikido Yuishinkai. All of our instructors attend regular seminars by both of these masters. All Aikido students are invited to do likewise.

About the club

The Hills District PCYC Aikido club promotes the study and practice of Aikido. We hold an open matt policy for any Aikidoka or martial artist who wishes to practice with us.

All instructors are club members and are fully accredited nationally and internationally with Aikido Yuishinkai. Our instructors are committed to the study of Aikido. All instructors are unpaid members who donate their time and effort for free.

About our classes

Students practice Aikido usually in pairs that is safe for the least experienced member of the pair. Safety is our number one priority.

Your first two classes are FREE. This is intended to give you a feel for the scope of Aikido. It is not necessary to wear a training 'Gi' (uniform) until you are ready to be awarded a belt.

At the end of your second months training you'll probably be ready to be graded to your first belt. Student's normally achieve their 'black belt' after 3-4 years of dedicated training.
